I’m planning my first trip to Europe, what do you recommend?
I’ve been looking at a few “budget friendly” student travel tours but from what I can tell they seem a bit limiting and I’ve read very mixed reviews. It seems the best reviews are coming from the tour guides themselves which doesn’t help much when they’re trying to sell me…
This is my first trip outside the US and I want to make the best of it so I’m ditching my architectural job in Chicago for a month and heading… somewhere. Having never done this I’m wondering if a “planned for you” trip wouldn’t be the best way to see everything.
How does it compare, price-wise, to traveling on my own?? I’m not sure where to begin.
I could recommend heaps of places, but in your month you should try and see a range of places, but not too much. Try and spend some time in some places, to not only give you a break and take a breather, but also to see a place well is better that skimming it! After your trip you will only remember 1 or 2 things and thats it ( and thinking..i wish i had time to see this and that).
I guess what you need to ask yourself is what you want to see…..would you like to see some cities, some landscapes, some coast, some west, some places east?
London is normally the starting point to europe and its a good city to get you grounded as its english speaking. There is quite a bit to do here and a few days here would be good.
Paris is also a great city and I found 5 days still not enough time for me, however it still gave me a good time.
I will say Prague was a city I had never contemplated but wow its wonderful and in my top 3 cities.
I loved Italy but it depends on what you like. I also loved Croatia as it had wonderful coastline and towns.
I would chose maybe 3-4 large cities and spend 3-5 days in each and then have legs which have shorter times eg 1 night and more travelling…then stay in a city for a few days. The thing is chosing where to go!!!!!
