I don’t want to study abroad because I hate appreciating other cultures and religions? Please read?
I’m a junior civil engineering major in college. I’m also an atheist. My university encourages all students to study abroad and a lot of students do it. However, I do not want to study abroad because I do not see the point learning about the ways of third world, barbaric cultures that do not have advanced technology and decent human rights records. Why should I travel to the Middle East, Asia, or Africa to learn about a group of people that are incredibly religious beyond reason, hold on to stupid superstitions, and follow silly customs just because their elders told them to. I think outside the rational, secular societies of Europe and North America, people are just tribal barbarians. And I’m not white. I’m of Indian descent. So I grew up with Indian culture and hate it. Third world societies are backward and evil. Am I normal? Should I try to change? Does anyone else think like me? What do I do? Should I study abroad anyway?
Child, you should go to India. You are so misinformed. India has a rich history and culture, its not all about religion. Religion is human behavior anyway.
