Europe Travel Recommendations
Traveling from England to the UK and Europe?

I am studying abroad in Portsmouth (southern tip of England) and have 2 weeks off for spring break. I want to visit the rest of the UK as well as France, Spain, Germany and Italy. What are the cheapest ways to travel/cheapest accommodations? I have heard of staying in people’s houses for free (couch surfing) and youth hostels. Any good recommendations? Thank you!

Pick a destination.
2 weeks is not enough to see four countries to the south as well as a huge country stretching out to the north.

Couch surfing can work out, but do budget for hostels, so you are not stuck in case you can not work out a place to stay.
In your case I would likely opt for coach/bus travel within the UK, trying to get a place with couch surfing, but also looking for hostels, and budget the same for food as ‘at home’ in Portsmouth.
In two weeks you can get a good impression of the UK.
Or I would fly to a country on the continent and do local exploring there, using the bus or train depending on the country. It will be possible to combine France with one of the other countries on your list, but not much more.
Travel takes a lot of time, and you will be better off seeing fewer place but really seeing them.
5 countries in two weeks means that you will see the inside of the trains or airports and almost nothing else.
